What is the Walk for the Kids?

Walk for the Kids is a charity day, raising money for The Royal Children's Hospital, with all entry money going straight to this amazing charity!

What is the George Bass Walk?

 

  • Distance | 7-8km

  • Time | Approx. 110 minutes

  • Start | Shuttle buses depart the San Remo Hotel from 9am​

  • Reigstration & Check in will open from 8am at the San Remo Hotel

  • The finish line is at Punch Bowl Road in San Remo, where buses will shuttle you back to the San Remo Hotel​

  • Safety/First aid points are accessible along the trail


What is the San Remo Town Walk?
 

  • A fun, easy and trivia based walk suitable for the whole family!

  • You can start the walk at any time throughout the day, you just have to have completed it by 2pm

  • At registration/check in, you will receive a map and trivia form that include directions to different locations throughout the town to find answers for your trivia form! Hand your completed trivia form back to the pub for your entry into the draw to win a hamper of local goodies!

How do I register?

Follow this link to register prior to the event, or you can register on the day at the San Remo Hotel from 8am onwards.

Can I pay on the day?

Yes, you can register and pay on the day at the San Remo Hotel from 8am onwards.

What happens on the day?

​

Check in/registration begins at the San Remo Hotel from 8am onwards. 

If you are participating in the George Bass Coastal Walk, shuttle buses will start departing from the San Remo Hotel at 9am, taking you to the start line in Kilcunda. Enjoy the amazing walk across the trial, and then be shuttled back from the finish line to the San Remo Hotel.

If you are participating in the town walk, register and collect your trivia form from the San Remo Hotel and head off on your adventure! Once you have completed the walk and answered all of your questions, return your form to the San Remo Hotel to go in to the draw to win a family hamper. Forms MUST be returned by 2pm to go into the draw. 

​

There will be kids activities, face painting and live music at the Hotel after the walk, so plenty of reasons to hang around town and enjoy your day!

 

Can I bring my dog?

 

Yes! There are dog friendly shuttle buses available!

Are the walks pram friendly?

​

Unfortunately the George Bass Coastal walk is NOT pram friendly. 

​

The San Remo Town Walk is suitable for all prams and mobility vehicles.

​

Where can I park?

​

Free parking is available throughout the town.

​

Are there drink stations throughout the George Bass Coastal Walk?

​

Yes! We recommend bringing your own water bottles, however there are safety/first aid checks along the trail with water if you require a top up.

Safety information for the George Bass Coastal Walk

​

  • The course is around 8km long and can be quite challenging. This is in no way a race so rest as much as you need and just take in the sights.

  • The course in mainly on mown grass and is very steep in places. There is a section that is through a sandy beach. This together with some steps makes it very difficult for anything with wheels.

  • If you think you will be unable to complete the walk notify the next first aid station and arrangements can be made to assist you back to San Remo.

  • There are no toilets along the course, on the bus or at either end.

  • Shuttle bus is taking you to Shelley Beach car park at Kilcunda which is the start of the walk.

  • The course goes close to some cliffs. Stay on the defined route and this will not be a problem.

  • The course is through grass and bushland so be watchful for Snakes. If you come across a Snake simply give it some distance and if possible notify walkers behind you. Inform the people at the next first aid station and at no stage attempt to move it.

  • Please give all wildlife distance and do not attempt to interact with it.

  • The course is also identified by numbered orange cones with km numbers on them. Keep track of where you are by noting each cone as you reach them.

  • There are first aid drink stations along the way. Approximately 2km and 5km. Remember to stay hydrated.

  • If you are in EXTREEME difficulty or it is an EMERGENCEY stop CALL 000 & inform a fellow walker who can report it to the nearest first aid point.

  • If you are finding the walk too challenging or have a minor injury and unable to make the next first aid station, call event coordinator & inform a fellow walker who can also report it to the nearest first aid point

  • If you come across a walker in distress if possible have someone stay with them while sending someone report to first aid.

  • Once you have completed the course a shuttle bus will return you back to the pickup point at San Remo

  • Event organisers encourage you to bring your own drink bottle, water will be available along the course to re-fill.

Safety information for dogs on the George Bass Coastal walk​

​

  • Walkers with dogs must be responsible for their dogs at all times.

  • Dogs must be on a lead at all times.

  • Owners must Clean up after your dog, dogs must be kept under control if you come across any wildlife.

  • Smaller Bus is designated for those with dogs, you are unable to take dogs on the larger busses.

  • The course is around 8km long please ensure your dog can get a drink along the way.

  • The course is through grass and bushland so be watchful for Snakes where dogs are concerned.

  • Once you have completed the course the same dog shuttle bus will return you back to the pickup point at San Remo. we will endeavour to return you as soon as possible but please understand the dog bus wait time might be longer than the other passenger only busses.
